About Slow Food Berkeley
Slow
Food Berkeley is the Berkeley, CA chapter of Slow Food. We're one of over 210 chapters in the U.S. operating within the network of the national non-profit organization Slow Food USA.
Slow Food Berkeley's leaders are volunteers who organize programs that bring Slow Food's values to our community. We are supported by fundraising and, in small part, by the dues-paying members of Slow Food. We believe that everyone, dues-paying or not, can get involved in the healthy food and agriculture movement. With diabetes and obesity ruining our nation's health and with climate change and environmental injustice worsening, we can't afford to ignore the consequences of the way we grow, distribute and eat food.

History
Slow Food Berkeley was founded about nine years ago by Alice Waters, who currently serves as a Vice President of Slow Food International. Her office managed the chapter, valiantly grew its membership and organized the precedents for programs like the Bay Area Meat CSA. In the last sixteen months, many of the chapters' original leaders have retired and, in fits and starts, a new leadership has taken over. The new leaders would like to recognize the work of the extraordinary people who have committed time, sweat and money to the chapter and the cause of Slow Food:
Sylvan Brackett
Sarah Weiner
Joyce Cellars
Michelle Fuerst
